Seraya's Journey
Dear Friends and Family of Seraya,
We wanted to take the opportunity to use this as a platform for updating those who are dear to our little Seraya. While Brian and Alaina would love to update, respond to texts, emails or phone calls but the reality is this is a big surgery for our dear Seraya and their focus will be fixated on their family. Please don't be discouraged by a lack of response and the reason for the blog is to keep everyone in the loop. We don't know the frequency of updates but we will determine that based on the surgery.
The surgery! It is tomorrow and they are off to Toronto Sick Kids Brian and Alaina are entrusting their little girl to the doctors for a surgery. It would be hard to even explain the intricacies of the surgery but essentially Seraya in her challenges of being born has cerebral palsy. The elasticity of her muscles are misfiring with her brain and often operates in a "stretched" state with little elasticity. Essentially as she gets older this "stretch" will only increase. That is a very general explanation.
Here is the specific explanation from the doctors: https://hollandbloorview.ca/sites/default/files/2022-03/SDR-Brochure-Accessible.pdf. It explains how the procedure works. We are truly in awe of God's power when it is explained in this way. We also confess that our Father is the great physician and He has always been faithful to us!
Brian and Alaina are humbled by this surgery and nervously optimistic that this surgery will provide relief for Seraya. . We know that in all of the variables of life that our Heavenly Father is our constant and He has all of it in the palm of His hand.
We ask that you pray for the Schuttens and little Seraya as we look to a successful surgery and a it will be quite the recovery. Brian and Alaina know with whom their hope is founded and are very thankful for the support of their family and community.
On behalf of Brian and Alaina,
Jake DeJong
