Off to Holland Bloorview We Go!
Good morning!
One week ago we were working through the reality of the surgery day! We are so thankful to our Heavenly Father for His goodness towards our sweet Seraya.
Here are a few highlights of some of the timelines from post-surgery:
- Sunday - Seraya was able to go for rides in the wheelchair. She was doing a lot better with pain on Sunday also but she had to take it pretty easy still.
- Monday- She was really good even started to stand on her feet slightly with our help still very weak legs but definitely getting better with movement.
- Tuesday- Seraya got a walker from sick kids hospital to try. She did really well we still held onto her as she doesn’t have a lot of endurance. The physio person said she is one of 3 to walk so quickly after her surgery so that was very encouraging to hear
- Wednesday - Moved to Holland Bloorview. B&A received a lot of info on how things are going to work. She will receive physio every day and occupational therapy 3 times a week. She will also continue to receive schooling there during her stay so she will be kept busy during the days. The parent involvement for physio and OT will be needed. They also have programs after school that she can get involved with if she would like to swimming, baking, games etc. Seraya is most excited for this.
Further to the above they are hopeful that in a few weeks they will get weekend passes to go home with her on a Friday afternoon and come back Sunday night.
Overall from a week ago the journey towards recovery has been set. We are thankful for Seraya's positive disposition and determined ambition.
We will keep you updated on the journey towards a recovery. Seraya is already showing early signs of positive development. Praise God for this!
B&A are also running back and forth to Toronto so there are at times some logistical pain but look with the mindset that all of this is in our Father's plan. We ask that you keep Seraya and the Schutten Family in your prayers as they walk through this journey. They have been so thankful for the support of the communion of saints.
Soli Deo Gloria! (Glory to God Alone)
On behalf of B&A,
Jake DeJong
